How to Check If Your Singapore PR Application Is Actually Real

A recent case in Singapore caught a lot of people off guard.
Someone paid a few thousand dollars to an “agent”, received documents that looked completely official, and believed their PR application was in progress. Later, they found out nothing had been submitted at all.

It’s uncomfortable to talk about, but this happens more often than people think. Not because people are careless, but because the process feels complicated and many just want someone to handle it properly.
And to be fair, that is exactly what good immigration agencies are supposed to do.
The real issue is not agencies. It is not knowing which ones are legitimate.
First, a quick reality check
All PR applications go through the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, also known as ICA.
There is no shortcut around that.
So if anyone tells you:
they can “increase approval chances” through connections
they can speed things up unofficially
or you do not need to see the submission
That is where you should pause.
A proper consultant will not sell you that story.
What a real agency actually does
A good agency will not magically get you approved. What they do is more practical and grounded.
They help you:
understand your eligibility
prepare documents properly
avoid common mistakes
present your profile clearly
And importantly, they do not disappear after you pay.
You are still involved in the process.
So how do you know your application is real?
You do not need to overthink this. A few simple checks are enough.
You understand what is being submitted
Even if someone helps you, you should still know:
what is being submitted
when it was submitted
If everything feels unclear like “don’t worry, we handled it”, that is not a good sign.
There is proper proof
After submission, there should be something concrete:
a confirmation
a reference number
Not just a PDF or screenshot sent to you.
A real application can always be verified.
You can check it yourself
This is the simplest test.
You should be able to verify your application directly with ICA.
A legitimate agency will not avoid this. In most cases, they will even guide you on how to check it yourself.
If someone keeps delaying this step, take it seriously.
The payment structure makes sense
One common pattern in scams is this. You pay once, then suddenly there are more “extra fees” to continue.
Real agencies are clear about their pricing from the beginning.
It may not always be cheap, but it should never be confusing.
The agency feels credible
This sounds basic, but it matters.
Can you:
find clear information about them online
speak to a real person who explains things properly
get direct answers instead of vague promises
If something feels off, it usually is.
So, should you use an agency?
It depends on your situation.
Some people prefer to handle everything themselves. Others want guidance to avoid mistakes or save time.
Both are completely fine.
Just do not treat the process like something you hand over entirely without understanding what is happening.
Just keep this in mind
Getting help is not the problem. In many cases, it is helpful.
But your PR application is still your name, your future, and your responsibility.
Stay involved. Ask questions. Verify things yourself.
A good agency will not be bothered by that. They will expect it.
