LTVP

If you’re planning to live in Singapore with a loved one who is a Singaporean or PR, the Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) could be your pathway to staying long-term. But this is more than just a visa, it’s a structured route that blends immigration policy with relationship proof, stability, and forward planning.

1. Why LTVP Exists

Singapore offers the LTVP to allow foreigners with family ties, especially spouses, parents, or children of Singapore citizens, to stay in Singapore beyond the typical 30–90 day visitor period. It reflects the country’s family-first values, but it also comes with checks to ensure applicants are genuine and self-sufficient.

2. Not an Automatic Grant

Being married to a Singaporean doesn’t guarantee approval. ICA will consider:- Length of marriage- Financial stability of the sponsor- Whether you have children (especially Singaporean-born)- Past immigration record- Where you intend to live (rented or owned housing)This means showing a stable relationship, a proper living plan, and enough financial support is key.

3. Employment on LTVP

LTVP holders cannot automatically work. If you want to work, your future employer must apply for a Letter of Consent (LOC) on your behalf through MOM. Approval is not guaranteed and is usually smoother if you're the spouse of a Singapore citizen or PR.If you’re aiming for easier work rights and better long-term stability, you may be considered for the LTVP+, which is granted at ICA’s discretion (usually to those with children or longer marriages).

4. Applying for the LTVP

Applications are submitted online through ICA’s e-Service. You’ll need:- Marriage certificate- Passport biodata page- Sponsor’s income proof and CPF history- Residential address and tenancy/ownership proof- Completed ICA forms (e.g., Appendix V)Most applications take 6 to 8 weeks, though it may be faster if all documents are clear and complete.

5. Renewal and Upgrades

LTVPs are typically valid for 1 to 2 years, with renewal possible. Each renewal is reviewed afresh, so it’s important to continue meeting the eligibility and sponsorship conditions. In time, many LTVP holders upgrade to LTVP+ or even apply for Permanent Residency (PR). PR applications, while separate, are easier to support if you’ve held an LTVP without issues.

Finally!

The LTVP is a flexible and family-oriented pass, but it’s not casual. It requires careful planning, strong documentation, and long-term thinking. Use it as a bridge, for living, working (with consent), and eventually settling down permanently in Singapore.
